Bai Soi Beach in Nha Trang: a pebble 'mini Ha Long' with rocks
Multicoloured pebbles at the water's edge, green hills and two big rocks rising straight out of the sea: this is Bai Soi — a quiet beach in northern Nha Trang that locals call a 'mini Ha Long'. Here is where it is, what makes it special and how to get there from the city centre.
What Bai Soi Beach is
Bai Soi (Bãi Sỏi, 'Pebble Beach') is an unusual stretch of the Nha Trang coast, scattered with millions of smooth, multicoloured pebbles instead of the usual sand. It is a quiet, almost untouched seaside oasis, where people come for solitude, beautiful photos and sea air away from the city bustle.
Where it is
The beach lies in the north of Nha Trang, in Bac Nha Trang ward, along Pham Van Dong road towards Vinh Luong — about 6 km from the city centre. It is easy to reach by motorbike or taxi, and Bai Soi is easy to combine with other spots on the northern coast.
Nha Trang's 'mini Ha Long'
The main feature of the place is two big rocks, standing side by side and rising above the waves. Their unusual outlines recall the famous Rooster and Hen islets (Trong Mai) in Ha Long Bay. That is why Bai Soi is nicknamed a 'miniature Ha Long' — an unusual and mesmerising corner right in Nha Trang.
Multicoloured pebbles and white coral
The stones here come in all shapes and shades: over the years the sea has polished them smooth and shiny. Among the pebbles you'll find wave-bleached pieces of coral — white rounded 'stones' washed ashore by the surf. The rocky strip stretches for nearly 700 metres along the water.
Rocks and 'pools' between the stones
The further north you go, the more striking the scenery: vertical rock blocks, and small natural 'pools' between the crevices. Some rocks are 10–15 metres high, with natural stone 'steps' — the bold climb up to admire the sea from above.
A quiet oasis in a busy city
Despite being close to the city, Bai Soi stays calm and uncrowded. Some sit quietly watching the sea, others catch beautiful shots by the big rocks, some stack small pebbles into spontaneous little towers. Now and then local fishermen sit on the rocky shore with their rods, waiting patiently in the quiet of the evening sea.
What to do here
Bai Soi is great for an unhurried walk, watching the sunset and a photo session — the views with the big rocks are impressive. The place also suits a picnic or camping by the sea. Many come precisely for the sense of solitude and 'wild' nature within the city.
Low and high tide: how to explore
The terrain depends on the water. At low tide you can walk past one of the big rocks and get close to the spot that resembles 'Ha Long Bay'. At high tide people go around the rocks from behind and enjoy the scenery from another angle — a whole new view.
Safety on the rocks
The shore is rocky and the paths are tricky in places, so take care: stones can be slippery, especially near the water and after rain. Comfortable shoes, watching your step and sensible caution near the rocks will make the walk safe and enjoyable.
